Praying the Psalms

Many years ago, I did a series for Advent called Praying the Psalms which was based on a devotional I read at SearchLight.com. Though I'm a couple of days late, I'd like to resume it for Lent this year.

Quotations are from the New King James Version

Psalm 46:1-3,10-11
God is our refuge and strength,
A very present help in trouble.
Therefore we will not fear,
Even though the earth be removed,
And though the mountains be carried into
the midst of the sea;
Though its waters roar and be troubled,
Though the mountains shake with its swelling.
Be still, and know that I am God;
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth!
The LORD of hosts is with us;
The God of Jacob is our refuge.

I've been called upon to be an encourager for many people losing their jobs, it seems that this economy has been real hard on people in my industry and in my company. But God's promises aren't dependent on the economy, they are dependent only on God's faithfulness, and according to this Psalm, that faithfulness is absolute.

Consider the story of Joseph: a boy sold into slavery by his brothers, then framed and committed to prison for a crime he refused to commit. Then through God's providence, he becomes the #2, second only to Pharoah, in effect the Prime Minister of Egypt. In that office he saves that country and his family from a devastating seven-year drought. The people he saves include his brothers, the very ones who wronged him so long ago!

How did he do it? How did he respond through the bad times and good? By living each day in full knowledge that God was with him no matter what.

Very good advice for you and me - especially for me.

Testing, testing, testing...

I've been gone for a little more than four years. What happened?
Well, I didn't die, so if anyone was wondering, I'm still on the planet, however a lot of changes...

Got real busy, what with my daughter growing up, so decided to drop out for a while. Forgot to say good-bye to all my friends reading this blog however, and I apologize for that. If you can find it in your heart to forgive me, I'd love to strike up the dialogue again.

Now Rebecca is in first grade, and I've been wanting to post again, put my website to use again, after all, I'm keeping someone else from using it, so I've started to feel bad about hogging the space. If you claim it, you've got to use it, as John Locke would say.

Other changes, I've moved out of New Jersey, and into Florida. My career offered me a chance to move and I took it. Did it back in April 2008. Links on left now reflect my new church home and Weather Pixie. I'll be making other changes too, including a new name for the blog. The old name just doesn't say anything about me anymore. A new banner picture is coming too. And it's probably time to upgrade my blogging engine.
